My lola believes that my sixteen year-old cousin is pregnant, but she told me not to ask any questions. Yeah, right. Something like that, is too important to ignore. I don't believe that my cousin is ready to have a child, although I wouldn't say that it's not possible for a sixteen year-old to be mature enough to raise one. First of all, I don't believe that the proper family support is there. It's inconsistent and unrefined, at best.
I'm not trying to knock my own family, but I've had to reach beyond them to really find more positive role models. That probably has more to do with the fact that I have such a small family than anything else. It's simple statistics that the more people in the family, the more likely positive role models are within that family. Similarly, there are probably more negative role models as well, so in that sense, it must balance out.
If she is pregnant, I will just have to be the best support I can be, without risking my own sanity of course. We'll find out soon enough.
