  • Proud doesn't even begin to express how I felt to be holding the Philippine flag among the thousands of protestors around the Capitol yesterday. As fellow protestors asked me what flag that was, I told them and taught them that Filipinos make up the second largest Asian immigrant group in the country. I demonstrated that this is not just a Mexican issue. It is an issue that boils right down to the core of what America stands for. There were other flags present too, among the sea of US and Mexican flags, but me holding the Philippine flag was significant. I may have only been one, but I was one among thousands.

It's not as easy being an activist in Sacramento as it is in San Francisco, but yesterday demonstrated that it's possible to get folks here amped about something. San Francisco is sort of in it's own bubble as far as activism. Yet most of the major decisions affecting California are made in Sacramento. Personally, I think it's a misallocation of resources.
