  • I realized long ago that I'm terribly unphotogenic. As a result, I don't take many pictures. Of those that I do take, few ever make it into the public eye. I would be the bane of the paparazzi. There are many factors that go into my coming to this conclusion.

    1) I'm overweight - My doctor says so. My fraternity brother's fiancee, bless her heart, said that I carry it well, but I sure don't feel that way. I've been working on it though, and making progress.

    2) I'm bald - At one point this was very popular. It was popular enough that Sean Connery was voted sexiest man of the year in one poll. However, gone are those times. Hair is in. Spikey and tossed hair. Someone said that I have a great shaped head. Thank goodness for that. Personally, I don't mind that I'm bald, but for the camera, it sometimes causes a glare.

    3) My smile could be greatly improved - The only problem is that it's expensive. Being raised by a terminally ill single parent didn't lend itself to being able to get orthodontic care. It's ironic because I just adore a great big smile.

Why does this suddenly come up? Mostly because my friends are talking about their reunions, relating to me how so many people changed, for better or for worse.

However, I'm just looking for something to write about. I think about m image a lot, but ultimately, I'm confident enough in myself to not care about it too much. I make up for it in many other ways. Just yesterday, I received quite a compliment when a visiting administrator mentioned, "Bobby Roy, you are too good to be true." The administrator didn't know me except for the couple of days that she had been here and I had been assisting her. Due to the amount of time that we had been spending together, we had also talked about personal goals and dreams. and so she had not only had a glimpse of my professional demeanor, but my personal life as well. Those compliments, while few and far between, I cherish immensely. There is no prouder moment than the moment one knows that they made a difference.

  • You definitely make a difference!!!  About the unphotogenic thing...that's me too!  The only good reason why there are good ones of me out there is because I'll take 20  pictures of myself and decide that 1 looks good.  There are a lot of really bad pictures of me that have been deleted.  I love digital cameras!!

  • Bobby! You are a great person!!! Don't be concerned too much about what's on the outside...you have a great heart and a brilliant mind... :)
